YOUN CHO

Youn Cho (born in Seoul, South Korea) was the recipient of the First Prize (with first dass honours) at the Strasbourg Higher School Decorative Arts.

In 1998 she moved to Nice France, where she developed her “girls” sculptures. Whether seen at play or bathing, diving or sulking, her sculptures are filled with the vibrant colours of life. Her work has been described as “playful” by the Ecole de Nice. Youn has participated in about 50 group exhibitions in France and abroad. Her works are in several public and private collections (like Norman Foster’s) in France, Monaco, Switzerland, Greece, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Jordan, Morocco, South Korea and the USA.

“Due no doubt to her spontaneity which made her grasp the festive spirit of the Riviera the moment she arrived in Nice, Youn has unwittingly joined Ben, Arman, Sosno, Moya, Gilli and Chubac, and even Niki de Saint Phalle in their attempts to make the public joyously participate in the work of art through cheerfulness and humour. Youn’s poetics is a poetics of the joie de vivre, of the pleasure of being alive, of its little sorrows and joys. It’s a sculpture of the surge of life”.
